Using Inkscape, you can quickly and easily create precisely cropped images from any vector file. In this article, we’ll go over all of the basics for cropping in Inkscape so that you can make the exact changes that you need to achieve the perfect design.
How to Crop in Inkscape
Step 1 : Open Inkscape.
Step 2: Import the image that you want to crop.
Go to File ➜ Click Import ➜ Select a Picture ➜ Click OK.
Step 3: Create a Rectangle or a circle and place it on the image.
Step 4: Right-click and Click on Set Clip.
Now you have a cropped photo.

Cropping an Image in Inkscape Using Rectangle and Square Tools
If you want to crop an image, you need to start by opening it up using your Inkscape application. To do this, click on the file menu, and from the drop-down menu, choose open.
The second thing you need to do is browse for the image you want to crop. After choosing an image, click on open, and your image will load in Inkscape. Now, I’ll show you how you can use the rectangles and squares option from the Inkscape tool panel to crop your image.
Add the selected shape to the part of the image that you want to crop. After adding your shape, press F1. Alternatively, you can click on the Select and transform shape tool, represented by the mouse arrow icon in the Inkscape tool panel.
Next, you need to press the Shift key and use your mouse cursor to select both the added shape and image simultaneously. Remember that you need to hold the Shift key until the operation is complete.
Now set the clip on the part of the image that you wish to crop. The clip feature in Inkscape allows users to hide all other objects apart from the clipped one. To do so, click on the object menu. When you are in the object menu, look for the clip option, explore its sub-menu, and finally click on set.
Now Inkscape will crop the image according to the added shape. If you look at your image and think that it isn’t well cropped, you can reset the parameters by releasing the clipped section. To do this, open the object menu, move to the clip sub-menu, and click on the release option.

How To Crop an Image in Inkscape Using Stars and Polygons
You can also use the stars and Polygons tool to crop your image. I’ll show you how to do this right after you select the image you want to use.
If you have selected the image you want to use, look for the stars and polygon tool on the left side of the Inkscape toolkit. Now add the selected shape to the image part you wish to crop.
Next, click on the select and transform object tool. The mouse arrow in the Inkscape tool panel represents this. The next step is to choose the whole image and the added shape while holding the shift Key.
For the next step, you must clip the part where the star is added. To do this, you can use the object menu. Alternatively, you can left-click on the opened image and choose the set clip from the opened menu.
